My 'stuff to deal with' folder has got rather large (around 1,000). When deleting a message, I get the stopwatch for anything between 1 and 20 seconds, which is rather frustrating since I am trying to whizz through deleting as many as possible!
Before I wade in and do unrecommended things like rebuild the mailbox, does this sound typical? I'm running a unibody Dual core 2 ghZ Macbook and I haven't noticed this kind of performance lag for quite some time. Is the constant change to the mailbox (it's not the incoming mail box, but it's where that drops nearly everything stuff after I've scanned it).

I can't speak to whether that's typical or not, but it's much faster to delete a message (as opposed to moving items to the trash). You lose the safety blanket of the trash box, but maybe that's a worthwhile trade?

not in my case, alas...it's regular enough that I have a script to remove things from the trash after three months. It's a good workflow.
um, I might try rebuilding it without telling anyone...

Did this recently start happening? If so, I'd suggest looking in
your console for any messages (not necessarily from Mailsmith)
that are coincident with the delay.
Either way, a sample (output of the "sample" command; see "man
sample" or use Activity Monitor) would generate potentially
useful information.

yes, fairly recently. I think it's crept upon me and I haven't really noticed (not sat down with my inbox for any length of time for some time)

specifically during one of the delays? I'll see what I can do. Do you want it to come here or to the feedback address?
thanks.

well, that's one way to guarantee it won't happen again, I didn't realise "sod's law" could be used as a troubleshooting mechanism:-)
I'll do my best...
