| Subject: Wish List - Real time preflighting | To: InDesign Talk |
Very often, we perform a preflighting when the job is finished. And
sometimes, corrections takes time (overprint colors, all lines must be 0.3
pt, a font in an Illustrator EPS not vectorized,...). This is the kind of
mistakes that should not occur if the user is a DTP professional but when
the job is big with many operator working on the same document, errors are
always possible. And thus when you think it's over, there is more...
Imagine now that you open a specific pane of the Preflight feature in ID
where you can enable/disable tons of options:
- RGB Pictures = No
- Overprinted colors other than Black = Yes
- All lines must be = 0.3 pt
- All strokes must be < or = 0.3 pt
- C+M+Y+K < 350 %
- Fonts in vector files = allowed (or ASK)
- ...
If an RVB pic is imported, an alert prompts immediately saying: "RVB images
are not allowed by the preflight rules. Change the color mode to CMYK. Open
the file in native application ? Or Reveal the file in Finder ? (So we may
open the file in another app)."
If a vector file that contains non vectorized text is imported, alert!
If by resizing a frame, the stroke is greater 0.3 maybe an option might be
set to preserve the width overriding the Scale options.
And so on... A pilot never check the list when the plane is on the runway
but when the plane is still off in the hangar.
