Hi, folks....
Would appreciate some help, please.
I've been playing around with one a them jQuery thingees, and have not
been able to figure out how to lengthen the row of thumbnails and the
whoopie scroller.
Those are both images, and I made the page background color match the
main image behind the art images and under the little sliding button.
Now, what I'd like to do is lengthen that part of it, so about six or
more images can show. That's the first thing. After that I want to
modify it some more, but first things first: making it longer.
Making the image longer doesn't do it ... something is constraining it.
There are two css files. One of them, "multimedia-portfolio.css" is
the one I think is doing it but I can't find where it is. It can be
edited with CSSEdit, so ... anybody got an idea how to do this?
The url is: <http://www.theperfectstick.com/slickslider/>
The site I got it from is: <http://www.openstudio.fr/jQuery-Multimedia-Portfolio-2.html

In the html <head> you'll find this :

Set the width of the parent list container there. Since, at a quick glance, everything in the stylesheet is set in percentages, I think it should scale proportionately as you change the width.
If not you may need to go in and tweak the css to suit.

It worked. Thank you. I had been fumbling around all yesterday
trying to find it in the stylesheet, and never thought of looking in
the head. Next time, I'll look in the head first, and probably find
out the next day that it was in the tail. Life is so mean.
Anyway ...
Not exactly as I had anticipated, it expanded the entire thing,
pictures and all, but at 800 it did expand to fill the screen ...
apparently it was designed for a 15 inch monitor. So it still shows
only 3 images, but they are big images now. I might even like that
better.
Now I'm going to take my stick with the 'orses 'ead 'andle and go poke
round an' see wot the Tigas will do.
(... from a old Stanly Holloway monologue. :-)
Thanks again.

Sometimes it is, but that's another story...
Ideally it shouldn't be in the head at all, but depending on what you're trying to achieve it's sometimes necessary to do it that way.

Nope. As I said, all the 'component' parts are specified in percentages, so they'll scale in a fixed proportion to each other.
I didn't really pay much attention, but I'm guessing it's been built that way to make it easy to resize/redeploy so long as you're happy with the default settings.
If you're not happy with the defaults, then you have to start adjusting the css yourself to alter the presentation.
I suppose the developers could reasonably argue if you're not happy with the defaults, learn to do it yourself. (I take it they're French, so they're bound to want to argue about something).
No such thing as a free lunch dept.
One thing I would point out is that all the JavaScript frameworks have lots of plug-ins and 'pre-rolled' doofers like this available.
One one hand they're almost all free, which is a good thing, on the other hand, the quality of the underlying programming is, er, variable, which is not so good. Quite simply, some are really good, some are okay, some are a bit clunky and a few are buggy piles of crap.
Unfortunately learning to differentiate between them takes time and experience, there are things I used in the heady days of discovery which I now wouldn't deploy again or I've rewritten/tweaked/abused to make them work the way I want them to.
As with all such matters, the more you understand about what's going on 'under the hood' the better. But I'm glad you're enjoying learning a few new tricks.
